'Figure A' B-star winner at SFF
'Figure A' B-star winner at Swedenborg Film Festival which took place at Swedenborg Hall in Bloomsbury at the centre of London on the 26th of November. Andrew Kötting who was part of the judging panel had this to say about 'Figure A'
"WONDERFULLY AMBITIOUS AND FUTURISTIC - I WAS TRANSFIXED DESPITE MY STRANGE AVERSION TO HIGH END FX GRAPHICS AND CGI - BUT WHEN THE MAGIC CARPET KICKED IN THE WORK SOARED – I WAS REMINDED OF JEM FINER AND ANSUMAN BISWAS’S ZERO GENIE - WHICH IS A VERY GOOD THING INDEED"
THE SWEDENBORG FILM FESTIVAL was curated by Gareth Evans, writer, presenter, producer (Patience: After Sebald; By Our Selves and Unseen) and Film Curator at the Whitechapel Gallery, London; and Nora Foster, Communications Manager, Frieze and formerly Assistant Curator, The Swedenborg Society.
This year entrants have been invited to explore the concept of ‘topographies’—a notion encountered in the work of John Rogers, Iain Sinclair, Andrew Kötting and Emanuel Swedenborg.
"Topography might be seen as a reading of relief or terrain - the study of shape and features - landscape and the digging into the surface of things - but perhaps most importantly it might be seen as an exploration of inscape as subverted by the mind or psyche. Reality being made real through process - creativity as experience - re-written in the direction of feeling. The misremembered or misunderstood as real as any literal. This is the work I like.
Consciously or unconsciously we manipulate our experiences to include or omit certain aspects. Are experiences not therefore fictions? In fact is not anything processed by memory fiction?
Perhaps this is something that I’ve learnt through working with Iain Sinclair - Confabulator and Master Myth-Maker." Andrew Kötting
