KAHAILA SHOW LONDON
9th January - 5th February 2014
Wilderthorn present the work of two artists; John Lee Bird and Karin Gunnarsson.
John Lee Bird is predominantly a painter who is well known for his large catalogue of painted pop influenced portraits; ‘Before Encore’; which is an ongoing archive picturing influential people on the London club scene, in bold colours and larger than life scale. For the Kahlia show he is exhibiting two series; PSALM which are small colourful anatomical paintings of hands and ‘White Noise- 13 static drawings’, where small drawn faces intensely peers out from predominantly blank pages.
Karin Gunnarsson is a visual artist who works mainly in photography and film who graduated from the Royal College of Art in 2009. For the Kahlia show she’s exhibiting a series of photomontages, that were made in conjunction with a performance video; ‘Rehearsal for a Swansong that Still Touches’ (2009), where the artist performed movements improvised as a response to the sensation of rubber gloves filling the interior of her custom made body suit.
John and Karin are longstanding friends that graduated together from John Cass School of Art in 2000. Their working processes are very different but in their separate practices they share a fascination of the human body and the intensity of physical and/or psychical experience translated into iconicity and surface.
